Embark on one of Kashmir’s most breathtaking alpine adventures – the Tarsar Marsar Trek, starting from the picturesque town of Pahalgam. This 7-day journey takes you through lush meadows, dense pine forests, crystal-clear rivers, and the twin alpine lakes – Tarsar & Marsar, perched high in the Aru Valley region. Perfect for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts, this moderate-level trek offers surreal landscapes, remote campsites under the stars, and a deep sense of peace in Kashmir’s untouched wilderness.
Arrive in Srinagar and meet your trek leader. From here, you’ll drive to Aru village near Pahalgam, a scenic 4–5 hour journey passing through apple orchards, quaint villages, and the Lidder River valley. On arrival in Aru (2,400 m), check in to a cozy guesthouse or camp for the night. Rest and acclimatize.
After breakfast, begin your trek from Aru towards Lidderwat. The trail passes through lush pine forests, streams, and grazing lands used by Gujjars. It's a gradual ascent with beautiful views of the Aru River. Reach the open meadows of Lidderwat (2,780 m) by afternoon. Settle in for the night in tents beside the river.
Today’s trail winds through undulating meadows and thick pine groves. As you climb steadily, the alpine charm becomes more intense. Cross a couple of streams and reach Shekwas (3,300 m), a serene campsite surrounded by green pastures. Rest and soak in the calm atmosphere of the highlands.
Begin your ascent to the stunning Tarsar Lake, set amidst towering peaks and colorful meadows. The lake (3,800 m) appears like a turquoise jewel surrounded by snow-patched ridges. Pitch your tents on the lake’s banks and spend the afternoon exploring, photographing, or simply enjoying the stillness.
Trek over Tarsar Pass (approx. 4,000 m), offering panoramic views of both Tarsar and the valley below. Descend gently towards Sundarsar Lake (3,950 m), where you’ll camp near crystal-clear waters. En route, you'll pass wildflowers, rocky paths, and witness a dramatic change in landscape.
Wake up early and take a side excursion to the majestic Marsar Lake, often shrouded in mist and mystery. After soaking in the beauty, head back and descend to Homwas via Shekwas. It’s a long but rewarding descent through the meadows. Camp overnight in Homwas.
On your final trek day, descend from Homwas back to Aru village. Say goodbye to the highlands as you reach civilization again. After lunch in Aru, drive back to Srinagar by late evening. Tour ends with warm memories of Kashmir’s finest alpine adventure.
